Caitlin is a tax lawyer with over seven years’ experience advising on Federal and State taxes and is also experienced in managing engagements with the ATO and revenue authorities.

Caitlin regularly advises on income tax, capital gains tax, goods and services tax, and State tax matters, with a particular focus on transaction structuring and business structuring advice.

Caitlin also assists clients with implementing transactions in a tax-effective way, applying for duty assessments and exemptions, obtaining private rulings on complex tax matters, responding to audits, objecting to assessments and resolving disputes with the ATO and revenue authorities at an early stage.

Caitlin’s clients include Australian and international organisations with land, resources and infrastructure assets across Australia, fund managers, and private clients with complex trust and corporate structures.

Caitlin is a Chartered Tax Adviser and is currently completing a Master of Laws specialising in taxation law at the University of Sydney.

Experience

Inbound investment structures

Advising foreign investors on Australian tax and duty considerations for structuring and funding investments in Australian land and resources.

Acquisitions and divestments of resource assets

Advising on the duty implications of the sale of mining tenements, assisting in the tax-effective implementation of such transactions, and applying for duty assessments and variations in the rate of foreign resident capital gains withholding.

Managed funds

Advising on the Australia-wide duty implications of establishing, operating, and implementing liquidity processes for managed funds (including aggregation risks).  Obtaining duty exemptions to implement changes in management of funds.  Applying for wholesale unit trust registration and rulings for duty purposes in QLD, NSW and VIC.

Renewables projects

Advising on the duty and GST implications of acquisitions of land for renewables projects (including via option arrangements).  Advising on tax considerations for the establishment and funding of carbon offset funds.

Corporate reorganisations

Applying for corporate reconstruction relief from duty throughout Australia in respect of group reorganisations (including the restructure of a listed telecommunications company and the intragroup transfer of a Queensland energy company’s BESS and fleet assets).
