He is regularly engaged during the delivery phases of projects to help devise and implement strategies to secure improved project outcomes.
James also represents clients in all forms of dispute resolution, including litigation, arbitration, expert determination, Dispute Resolution Boards and adjudication under Security of Payment legislation.
He has acted in disputes on major projects throughout Australia and the Asia-Pacific, in sectors including:
transport (roads, rail, tunnels, bridges);
energy and resources (solar, wind, LNG, coal);
utilities (water and electricity);
social infrastructure (health, higher education, sporting facilities and social housing); and
commercial construction.
James holds a Master of Laws with a specialist construction law focus. He is a member of the Society of Construction Law Australia and has mentored emerging industry professionals as part of its mentoring program.
Advising government and contractors about delivery issues and dispute resolution on major road, rail and tunnelling infrastructure projects throughout Australia, including the resolution of disputes via Dispute Resolution Board processes, expert determination, arbitration and litigation.
Acting in significant litigation and disputes for multinational resources companies and major contractors, including Queensland solar farm and LNG projects, electricity transmission projects in New South Wales and Victoria, a Victorian gas plant upgrade, various wind farms, a New South Wales coal mine expansion and Western Australian iron ore and LNG projects.

Advising government departments, Hospital and Health Services and various Universities about contractor performance and payment issues, regulatory matters and the avoidance of disputes arising from capital works and facilities management projects.

Acting in confidential domestic and international arbitrations for owner and major contractor clients relating to Australian and offshore projects (including projects in Papua New Guinea and South East Asia).
Advising water authorities and local governments about water and waste infrastructure projects, including the construction of water pipelines, landfill facilities and associated infrastructure.

Acting for developers and contractors undertaking commercial projects such as high-rise towers, including in significant Security of Payment adjudications and associated Supreme Court proceedings.
